Aireal Australia DH Hubs [part 1]

This little project all started because I wanted the “wank” factor for my big DH rig. I thought a pair of Green Chris King would be sick and I looked into grabbing some, but quickly realised that CK don’t do a rear hub to fit my Shore. Damn!

As a supporter and lover of Australian companies, I decided to have a good serious look at Aireal Hubs. They have the quality I was after and make a rear in 150x12mm which is what I needed, but they don’t make them in Green. So, time to shoot off a query to the team at Aireal and see if they could custom colour me green with envy. Mick & Robbie agreed & seemed to be as excited as I was with this project, so I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

A sample or two were sent to me for colour approval and we discussed what changes needed to be done. The final version is as you can see in the pics, awesome looking hubs. As a bonus Mick had put the all new axle he’d been developing in the front hub for me as well. Nice work there.

The quality and look of these hubs is awesome. Everything seems nicely put together and running smooth. The machining and build quaility is second to none, I just need to build them up.

Obviously I haven’t had the joy of riding on these puppies, but that time is not far off. I’ve organised guru wheel builder Damian Auton from COG Bikes in Mt. Evelyn to lace them up to a nice set of Mavic rims. Once that is done, I’ll write part 2 of this review. So far they’re 10/10.

A huge thanks goes out to the team at Aireal for their support and effort. I for one will be buying more gear from them. Check out the latest [R]evolution Magazine [v.6 May/June Issue] for a great article on Aireal.
