SIXSIXONE: The Evolution is here

661 Evolution

Part#1: First Look!

SIXSIXONE has always been one of my favourite helmet brands due to their stylish look, awesome shell and proven fit & safety. So each year I'm always curious to know what the Team at 661 have pulled out for the upcoming season. I was lucky enough to be at the Sportz warehouse yesterday to see the all new Evolution Helmets and Knee/Elbow pads be unloaded from the international shipped container.

661 PromoI know there's images around the web, but seriously, they don't do this range of lids any cred at all. These things look frigg'n sweet in the flesh. I had planned to get a new DH lid and custom paint the thing, but now I'm not too sure, as these babies have all the love I want or need in a graphic. They're damn purdy!

I'm not normally a fan of any carbon lids, but that is a personal thing as I'm not much of a racer. I prefer the more "freeride" [for a lack of a better word] style lid, and I must say that this time round, 661 have killed it in both styles. The carbon Race lids are awesome looking, and for those of us that like our lids a bit "rough & tough" looking, then the standard fibre glass tubs just may suit your noggin'. As always with 661, the fit is great and the small details like logo embossed inner-padding and visor matched graphics has me all gooey with excitement. Prices will knock any other lid off the shelf, with guesstimate prices of about 300 bucks for the fibre glass, and 400 odd for the Carbon. These babies are the coolest full face lid out there. Helmet companies like TLD, THE etc. really need to pull out something special if they're to compete with 661 this time around.

I really do recommend checking these babies out in the flesh, I'm getting one, No Questions Asked!

Oh, I also checked out the new Evo knee and Elbow guards. They look pretty cool, but the look isn't what's so special about these things. I'll need to confirm the info, but they're made out of some space-age-poly-foamy-chicken-nugget-atoms or some shit like that. What it basically means is, that the foam levels are smaller, lighter, but yet, once forced contact is made, they chemically react to form a really strong safety barrier. Booyeah! Apparently you can hit your mate with a shovel and he wont feel a thing! If you try this stupid advice, please take photos or video footage and send it in to us...

I'll add some proper photo's soon - I was so overcome with excitement I forgot to shoot any pics.
